HOMERIC WISDOM

"It is better to have loved and lost than never to have lost at all."

This gem is admittedly from Homer Simpson, rather than from, say, the first English translation of the only ancient work of Homeric allegory (aside from Porphyry's Cave of the Nymphs) that has come down to us in its entirety - Heraclitus's Homeric Problems.

I took it for granted it that people would be aware that Homer was delightfully misquoting Tennyson ;) (It is true that many will not know where the original saying came from, though they will be very familiar with it.... but you did spot the difference, right?)
